Diabetes Cases In Britain
EDM number 621 in 2012-13, proposed by Keith Vaz on 23/10/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases and Health services.
That this House is concerned by figures published by the Yorkshire and Humber Public Health Authority that show 4.4 million people in England, Scotland and Wales are projected to have diabetes by 2020; notes that this is an increase of 700,000 or almost a fifth of current figures; further notes that the majority of these new cases will be type 2 diabetes; recognises that 80 per cent of new type 2 diabetes cases can be prevented with the right dietary and lifestyle choices; and calls on the Department of Health to invest more towards community-led diabetes awareness campaigns to aid the early detection of diabetes.
