Westfield Regeneration In Bradford

EDM number 610 in 2012-13, proposed by George Galloway on 19/10/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Service industries.

That this House notes that there has been a 23 acre hole in the heart of Bradford for almost 10 years, a hole that was to have been a Westfield Shopping Centre; further notes that a meeting was held with councillors, members of the public and senior representatives of Westfield last week on the Westfield project; further notes that many questions were not answered on the basis of commerical confidentiality; further notes that no mention was made of the sale of the site; further notes that The Times newspaper confidently reported on 18 October 2012, that the site has been sold by Westfield to a company called Meyer Bergman; understands that many people in Bradford and beyond feel hugely frustrated that they have been kept in the dark over the progress, or lack of it, in relation to this project; further notes that this latest development will further diminish public confidence over this project; further notes that the hon. Member for Bradford West has asked the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to institute a public inquiry into the Westfield project and more widely into the regeneration debacle in Bradford; and supports this call for a public inquiry by the hon. Member for Bradford West.
