The Women's Library
EDM number 428 in 2012-13, proposed by Valerie Vaz on 03/09/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Libraries.
That this House recognises the importance of the unique and internationally renowned collection held by The Women's Library, including documents recognised by UNESCO which record the heroic struggle for women's suffrage alongside hundreds of thousands of other materials recording the lives lived and campaigns fought by women since the 16th century; further recognises the impressive work the Library has achieved in making this history accessible to students, researchers, schools and the local community; notes the decision of London Metropolitan University to divest its responsibilities for The Women's Library; is concerned for the Library's uncertain future; and urges the Government to ensure that this invaluable part of our national heritage remains accessible to all in its purpose-built premises and is able to continue and build upon the outstanding work which it has already achieved.
