That this House notes with concern that eggs continue to be produced in illegal conventional battery cages in some EU member states; is concerned that food products in the UK market may contain illegally-produced eggs; believes that the Regulation that requires packs of shell eggs to be labelled as to the production method should be extended to egg ingredients in order to enable consumers to make informed choices; further notes that 86 per cent of UK respondents in a recent poll were in favour of such a move; supports the work of Four Paws and other organisations on this issue; and calls on the Government to press for the introduction of compulsory labelling of all food products containing egg to indicate the production system used.
This motion has been signed by a total of 28 MPs.
