Patient Safety And Gagging Agreements

EDM number 298 in 2012-13, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 02/07/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Health services and Standards.

That this House notes the public interest in ending the practice of subjecting clinicians to confidentiality clauses purporting to disallow further discussion of concerns forapatient or public safety; further notes that HM Treasury consent has been required for paying for compromise agreements; calls for each affected clinician to be asked to say, without risk of penalty, what they have felt prevented themfrom saying; and further calls on the Secretary of State for Health and the Health Select Committee to gather the information to make possible a Leveson-type inquiry that lays out in public the types of concerns for patient and public safety and the tactics that have been used to silence, to intimidate and to wear down competent worried clinicians.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
