Argentinian Debt Default

EDM number 226 in 2012-13, proposed by Bob Blackman on 19/06/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Economic situation and Latin America.

That this House is seriously concerned about Argentina's refusal to negotiate with and pay many foreign lenders following its historic 2001 $81 billion default; notes its continued misdirection over economic figures which are contested by independent economists, statistical offices and surveys of inflation; is deeply concerned over recent moves to nationalise businesses not owned by Argentina and continued defiance of decisions made by the World Bank's International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes as well as numerous court judgments around the world; further notes that the EU has filed an impending trade-suit against Argentina at the World Trade Organisation over import restrictions and the seizure of Repsol's YPF; further notes that the G20 is a forum for serious international economic powers and for serious discussion; and holds that the G20 should reconsider Argentina's role within the organisation.
