Advertising Standards Authority And Religious Liberty
EDM number 189 in 2012-13, proposed by Gary Streeter on 13/06/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Media and Religion and faith communities.
That this House notes that an independent review of the recent decision by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to prohibit a group of mainstream Christians in Bath from claiming that `God can heal' has concluded that the ASA had no authority or jurisdiction to make any such ruling; recognises that important issues of freedom of speech and religious liberty were involved in this case; welcomes the fact that Healing on the Streets Bath will now be able to continueits worthwhile ministry; and calls on the Government to carry out an independent inquiry into the work of the ASA to determine whether it has acted outside its jurisdiction and statutory authority in other areas.
This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
