EDM number 183 in 2012-13, proposed by Mark Durkan on 12/06/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Arms control, International politics and government and International organisations.

That this House welcomes the launch, on 12 June 2012, of the NGO coalition in support of the Global Truce 2012 campaign; applauds Peace One Day and Interpeace for their initiative and the full support of ACCORD, BRAC, MAG (Mines Advisory Group), Mercy Corps, Viva Rio and War Child; recognises that Peace One Day led the effort to establish the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non violence, unanimously adopted by UN member states as 21 September - Peace Day - now celebrated each year around the world; endorses the campaign by Global Truce 2012 to achieve the largest ever global reduction of violence on one single day on Peace Day 2012 - Friday 21 September; strongly commends the other international coalitions previously launched to support Global Truce 2012 - the coalition on domestic violence and the student coalition; and encourages other NGOs, rights activists and advocates to join in this mobilisation of peacebuilders, their work and networks in Africa, Asia, Central America, the Middle East and Europe, to decisively mark Peace Day and Global Truce 2012 this September.
