Hargreaves Review
EDM number 151 in 2012-13, proposed by Tony Baldry on 11/06/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Intellectual property.
That this House welcomes the recommendations of the Hargreaves Review of Intellectual Property; believes that copyright exceptions proposed by Professor Hargreaves in relation to text and data mining could facilitate significant advances in medical research and that exceptions in relation to digital archiving could preserve important historic and cultural materials for the future; notes that the current complex copyright regime acts as a barrier to innovation and inhibits SME growth; further believes that the copyright exceptions in relation to format shifting and to allow parody works are common sense reforms; and calls on the Government to implement these vital copyright exceptions as soon as possible in order to support research, innovation and growth in the UK.
