Nuclear Testing And North Korea

That this House believes that the possession of nuclear weapons of mass destruction (WMD)decreases national security; further believes that the recent nuclear warhead test by North Korea, its third test, is detrimental to that nation's development, as it diverts important scientific, engineering and technical experise away from health, education and technological development needed by that society; further believes that North Korea should remain within the international community, should ensure no nuclear WMD threats are made which are utterly counterproductive and damaging to its own interests, and should not unilaterally upset the diplomatically delicate 1953 armistice covering the Korean peninsula; notes that the nuclear warhead tests carried out by other nations currently compromises 1,054 tests by the US, 715 tests by Russia (Soviet Union), 201 tests by France, 45 tests by the UK, 45 tests by China, six tests by India, six tests by Pakistan, and at least one test by Israel; and calls on the Government to be consistent with its condemnation of North Korea and halt its own current nuclear warhead development programme at Aldermaston, and to cancel the
