Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament Initiatives

EDM number 1237 in 2012-13, proposed by Katy Clark on 21/03/2013.
Categorised under the topic of Arms control.

That this House notes the Foreign and Commonwealth Office justifies UK non-attendance at the international meeting on the Humanitarian Consequences of Nuclear Weapons in Oslo between 4 and 5 March 2013 on the grounds of the practical step-by-step approach that the UK is taking to progress multilateral nuclear disarmament through existing mechanisms such as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) 11 March 2013, Official Report, column 55W; believes that such events complement and assist the NPT process; further believes that the UK should indicate its intention to support initiatives towards disarmament at the NPT Preparatory Committee in Geneva in April; and urges the Government to commit to attend the next international meeting on the Humanitarian Consequences of Nuclear Weapons in Mexico.

This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
