Cost Of Nuclear Deterrence

EDM number 1131 in 2012-13, proposed by George Galloway on 28/02/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Arms control, Defence equipment and procurement, Defence expenditure and Defence policy.

That this House notes that renewing the Trident fleet will cost at least 25 billion; disagrees with former Minister for Security and Counter Terrorism, Lord West that any alternative would undermine the UK's national security; further notes that the so-called independent deterrent is a misdescription as it is almost entirely dependent on US weaponry and technology; asks who this massively expensive missile system is supposed to deter; believes categorically that the proposed cost of 25 billion is completely unaffordable even it if was desirable in this period of austerity; and calls on the Government to scrap Trident and any plans to renew the fleet.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
