Regulation Of Professional Football

EDM number 1117 in 2012-13, proposed by George Galloway on 27/02/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Regulation and Sports.

That this House believes that professional football in England and Wales is in urgent need of regulation; calls for the wages of all footballers as well as the sums paid to agents and their companies to be made public; notes that the respected pundit and former Manchester United great Gary Neville says that without regulation football is heading towards a crisis akin to the banking collapse; further notes that Gary Neville's former manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants individual fees paid to agents to be on record to show the public the `ridiculous' amounts they can receive; and urges the Government to follow the advice of Gary Neville and appoint an independent inquiry into how agents influence the game and to suggest proposals to regulate their role.
