National Autistic Society - Children And Families Bill
EDM number 1102 in 2012-13, proposed by Alan Meale on 26/02/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Children and families, Health services and Mental health.
That this House is aware that 1 per cent of children in the UK have varying degrees of autism and because of those conditions require extra help to access the support they need to reach their goals in further or higher education, employment and quality of life in their communities; notes research conducted by the National Autistic Society which has exposed the urgent need for such access, with half of parents complaining they waited for over a year to get the right support and with one in five stating they were forced to take legal action to achieve it; and calls on the Government to rectify this situation by ensuring its Children and Families Bill ends parents' battles for support by radically improving current arrangements, whilst retaining all existing legal rights and finding ways to make it easier to exercise them.
