That this House welcomes the report by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges calling for an introduction of a 20 per cent tax on the sale of soft drinks and more advice for parents on the costs of high calorie food; notes the 10 point plan recommended by the report to reduce the 5.1 billion obesity cost to the NHS; recognises that the soft drink industry must take responsibility for the effect of its products on the nation's health; and calls on the Government to take immediate action by introducing a tax on soft drinks and legislation to reduce the amount of sugar, salt and fat in food and drinks.
