Consultation On The English Baccalaureate

EDM number 1041 in 2012-13, proposed by Ian Mearns on 06/02/2013.
Categorised under the topic of Schools.

That this House recognises that there may be a need to reform the system of examinations taken by children at 16 but shares the concerns expressed by many influential figures from the world of the arts and the creative economy, education, industry and sport that decisions on the English Baccalaureate certificates are too limited and are being made in haste; believes any curriculum and assesment system should ensure the improvement of young people's futures and benefit the economic and cultural health of our nation; and urges the Government to fully engage the views of parents, students, governors, businesses, teachers, headteachers and other concerned stakeholders by extending the length and scope of the consultation to ensure any concerns are properly addressed.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
