Andy Murray And Doping In Tennis

EDM number 1025 in 2012-13, proposed by George Galloway on 05/02/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Drugs misuse and Sports.

That this House welcomes Andy Murray's plea for more rigorous doping tests in world tennis; notes that his recent comments follow those of the president of the Association of Tennis Professionals, Roger Federer, and world number one, Novak Djokovich, that they are being tested less frequently than in the past; further notes that the number of blood tests in professional tennis apparently declined by a third between 2006 and 2009; further notes that Spanish doctor Eufemiano Fuentes, currently on trial in Madrid after admitting providing athletes with banned substances, has claimed that tennis players were among his clients; further notes that the International Tennis Federation's dope testing budget is only $1.6 million; and calls on the tennis authorities to make public positive tests whether they result in a suspension or not.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
