That this House welcomes the report by the charity Sustain recommending the introduction of a 20 pence per litre levy on sugary drinks to be included in the next Budget, due to their contribution to increasing levels of obesity; notes that there are 60 organisations, including the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, backing the recommendations which would encourage consumers to make healthier choices; highlights the report's conclusion that voluntary agreements with industry are failing to provide any significant changes tothe nation's health; further notes that obesity is a leading factor in the development of Type 2 diabetes; and urges the Government to take immediate action by introducing legislation to limit the amount of sugar, salt and fat in our food and drink.
