Bus Service 639 Between Wednesbury And Walsall

EDM number 975 in 2010-12, proposed by Valerie Vaz on 09/11/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Buses.

That this House is concerned about the decision by Centro and National Express West Midlands to withdraw bus route 639 from Wednesbury to Walsall via Darlaston and Manor Hospital in January 2009; notes with concern that as a result of this service being withdrawn, elderly and disabled people in Walsall South constituency now have to catch three buses to attend appointments at Manor Hospital; is further concerned that this journey now takes approximately one hour and 20 minutes depending on the buses running to their timetable, and is particularly difficult for people with limited mobility due to the steep gradients they must walk up to reach the relevant bus stops; further notes that the only alternative is to take a taxi at the cost of 11 for a return journey; commends the efforts of local residents in organising a petition to protest against the withdrawal of the 639 service; and calls on the Government to urge Centro to reinstate the route and to allow the people of Walsall South to access their hospital safely and conveniently.
