Cyprus Crossing

EDM number 851 in 2010-12, proposed by Andrew Love on 18/10/2010.
Categorised under the topics of International politics and government and Western Europe.

That this House welcomes the opening of the crossing in north west Cyprus, between Kato Pyrgos/Asagi Pirgo and Limnitis/Yesilirmak, promised in May 2008 between the leaders of the Cypriot communities, Demetris Christofias and Mehmet Ali Talat; supports the pledges of the current Cypriot leaders, Demetris Christofias and Dervish Eroglu to continue the work for a comprehensive settlement for a united federal Cyprus, building on this new impetus for cooperation provided by Cypriot organisations and individuals in the region; looks forward to further crossings at Pyla and Lefka; and joins the UN Representative Alexander Downer in congratulating the Cypriot leaders and their communities at an outcome which, in one test of whether it was possible to reunite Cyprus, has proved the pessimists wrong and has shown the importance of the determination of Cypriots to achieve the project of bringing the island together.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
