Nursery On The Parliamentary Estate
EDM number 845 in 2010-12, proposed by Caroline Lucas on 18/10/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Child care, Members of Parliament and Pay.
That this House welcomes the provision of an on-site nursery on the Parliamentary Estate but regrets the regressive decision of IPSA to remove the salary supplement for new hon. Members' staff of 8 per day towards the cost of childcare for each child under school age; further notes that the removal of this subsidy for new hon. Members' staff puts the cost of the new nursery beyond the reach of most hon. Members' staff; believes that the cost of a salary supplement scheme should come from a central budget rather than the staffing budget to avoid making it more expensive for hon. Members to employ someone with children; and urges IPSA to reinstate the childcare salary supplement for all hon. Members' staff.
