Support For Families With Children

EDM number 816 in 2010-12, proposed by Annette Brooke on 13/10/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Family benefits.

That this House believes that the Chancellor of the Exchequer's proposed removal of child benefit payments for households where one parent earns around 44,000 is unfair, discriminates against those families where one parent chooses to stay at home andintroduces very high marginal tax rates for those earning just less than the threshold for the 40 pence tax band;furthermore appears to be equivalent to an increasein the basic tax rate of approximately fivepence in the pound for a parent just on the threshold and with two children; and calls on the Chancellor to review this policy as a matter of urgency.
