Solar Power Renewable Energy Tariff
EDM number 673 in 2010-12, proposed by John Hemming on 06/09/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Renewable energy.
That this House supports solar power and welcomes the launch of the Government's renewable energy tariff scheme for solar photovoltaics (PV) and other small-scale renewable electricity technologies; notes that the introduction of renewable energy tariffs enjoyed strong cross-party support and that the scheme is already delivering an increase in domestic PV installations and thousands of new skilled green jobs; welcomes the growth in uptake of PV since April 2010 and Government projections of a near 100 fold increase in PV installations by 2020; further notes that the cost of PV in the UK is set to more than halve in a decade; believes that the feed-in tariff scheme will provide much needed stability for the expansions of UK renewables businesses up to the first planned review of the tariffs levels in 2013; and urges Ministers to ensure that the Comprehensive Spending Review supports the potential of PV and other small-scale renewable technologies to make a significant contribution to the UK's renewables targets.
