Capital Punishment In Trinidad And Tobago
EDM number 550 in 2010-12, proposed by Michael Crockart on 20/07/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Human rights.
That this House is dismayed by reports that the new government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago plans to recommence capital punishment as a means of dealing with the country's high murder rate; notes with concern that these proposals have already resulted in a headcount to determine the number of convicted murderers who can be executed as soon as possible; further notes that extensive global research has found that there is no correlation between execution and the murder rate; and calls on the Government to make representations and oppose this regressive move in the strongest possible terms.
This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
