Kashmir

EDM number 528 in 2010-12, proposed by Julie Hilling on 15/07/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Asia and International politics and government.

That this House notes that 13 July is Kashmir Martyrs' Day, commemorating the murder of 22 people in 1931 and the start of the freedom struggle; further notes with concern that since this date more than half a million people have been killed by the occupying forces, numerous women gang raped and in the last two weeks a further 15 young men have been murdered; condemns this violence and agrees with United Nations resolutions that the Kashmiri people should be given the right to self-determination; and calls on the Government to do all within its powers to bring an end to the violence andto encourage self-determination and so ensure the people of Azad and Jammu Kashmir can live in peace and harmony.
