That this House welcomes the re-launch of the All Party Parliamentary Gas Safety Group; notes that carbon monoxide poisoning is responsible for around 30 deaths every year and injures many more; further notes that these fatalities andinjuries can be prevented by an annual inspection of gas appliances by a gas safety-registered engineer and the use of an audible carbon monoxide alarm; acknowledges recent reports that 81 per cent. of homes do not have audible carbon monoxide alarms fitted; expresses its concern at the Gas Safety Register survey which found that a third of rented properties do not have a current gas safety certificate; is alarmed that an estimated 250,000 gas appliances in Britain are installed or serviced by illegal fitters each year; congratulates the Gas Safety Register on its work since April 2009; and calls on the Government to renew its efforts to warn the public of the dangers of carbon monoxide leakage.
