Changes To The Boundary Commission For England

EDM number 390 in 2010-12, proposed by Alan Meale on 01/07/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Central government.

That this House recalls that on 27 May 2010 the Prime Minister announced the transfer of responsibility for the Elections and Democracy Division and the Constitutional Settlement Division of the Ministry of Justice to the Cabinet Office with effect from 2 June 2010, whilst at the same time responsibility for the sponsorship and funding of the Boundary Commission for England transferred to the Cabinet Office; notes that the staff that moved from the Secretariat to the Boundary Commission, whilst having been transferred to the Cabinet Office, remain located on the Ministry of Justice estate; further notes that the latest change of sponsoring department of the Boundary Commission is the fifth in the last 10 years; and calls on the Government to confirm the independent status of the Commission and that it will not in the near future interfere further either in its role, or in the machinery of the Boundary Commission's operation without firstly entering into meaningful and open discussions with the Commission.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
