Sugar In Soft Drinks

EDM number 2999 in 2010-12, proposed by Keith Vaz on 24/04/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Health education and preventive medicine.

That this House is concerned by Glasgow University research showing that the average person consumes 450 calories per day in liquids and that 24 per cent of those questioned did not take into consideration their liquid sugar or calorie intake when they were last on a diet; notes that the research shows many people are not aware of the high calorie levels in many commonly consumed drinks; further notes some brands of pomegranate juice can contain up to 22 teaspoonfuls of sugar; recognises that obesity and type-2 diabetes can be prevented by controlling calorie intake as part of a healthy lifestyle; and calls on the Government to launch an awareness-raising campaign on the amount of sugar in soft drinks.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
