Rise In Diabetes Complications
EDM number 2944 in 2010-12, proposed by Keith Vaz on 16/04/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases and Health education and preventive medicine.
That this House is deeply concerned that the rates of people with diabetes in England suffering strokes and kidney failure have risen by over 30 per cent since 2006-07; notes that the right health checks could have helped prevent the 16,000 people with diabetes estimated to have had a stroke and the 8,800 thought to have suffered kidney failure in 2009-10; further notes with alarm the Diabetes UK survey which showed that 22 per cent of people with diabetes had not had their kidney function checked in the previous year and seven per cent had not had their blood pressure checked; and calls on the Government to ensure that primary care trusts provide people with diabetes with the nine health checks they require each year according to National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellenceguidelines.
