Ministerial Pensions

EDM number 2909 in 2010-12, proposed by Mark Reckless on 20/03/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Ministers and Pensions.

That this House notes that, as announced in the Written Ministerial Statement of 15 March 2012 by theMinister for the Cabinet Office, Official Report, columns 33-4WS, Ministers will from 1 April 2012 on average contribute only 1.7 per cent. more to their pensions under the ministerial scheme while hon. Members contribute 1.85 per cent. more and many higher-paid public sector workers contribute 2.4 per cent. more; further notes that although Cabinet Ministers would pay 2.4 per cent. more this will increase their contribution factor under the rules of the ministerial pension scheme, leading to their receiving bigger pensions, while junior Ministers would receive smaller pensions; and urges the Government to bring forward fair and equal alternative proposals to increase the contribution rate of all Ministers by 1.85 per cent. in line with hon. Members.

This motion has been signed by a total of 4 MPs.
