Women And Job Sharing
EDM number 2581 in 2010-12, proposed by Mark Williams on 11/01/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Employment and Equality.
That this House welcomes the Capability Jane/Working Families report published in December 2011 entitled Job Sharing at a Senior Level: Making it Work; notes that the expectation of working long hours can clash with employees' family commitments which can be detrimental to both employees and organisations; further notes the particular effect this has on women in the workplace with 80 per cent. of highly qualified women wishing to work part-time; is pleased that leading global corporations have supported ground-breaking research into job sharing as a way of reversing the female brain drain and empowering more women to progress into senior roles; and hopes that this report will bring this issue to the attention of the Government in order that it may consider it in the context of female parliamentary representation and the wider constitutional and political reform agenda.
