Renewable Energy And Energy Efficiency For Social Housing

EDM number 2455 in 2010-12, proposed by Caroline Lucas on 22/11/2011.
Categorised under the topics of Renewable energy and Social rented housing.

That this House is concerned that social housing tenants are being denied savings of up to 180 per year on their energy bills as well as subsidised energy efficiency measures because of the Government's proposal to cut the solarphotovoltaic feed-in tariff for social housing schemes by 20 per cent. more than the newly proposed lower rates and to exclude social landlords from accessing the affordable warmth element of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO); notes that despite social tenants being among the poorest and most vulnerable people in society, they contribute to both the feed-in tariff and the ECO through their energy bills; and therefore calls on the Government to ensure that social landlords get equal access to ECO funding to deliver the Green Deal, and that social housingphotovoltaic schemes are classified as being community projects, so that social tenants can benefit from the feed-in tariff, as recommended by Inside Housing's Green Light campaign.
