Behaviour Of Tv Licensing

EDM number 2429 in 2010-12, proposed by Julian Huppert on 14/11/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Broadcasting.

That this House is concerned that TV Licensing is both intimidating and misleading in its correspondence with households which do not have atelevision licence; is further concerned that those who have no need of atelevision licence are thus unduly harassed; notes that TV Licensing routinely claims to have evidence that the recipient has illegally watched or recorded television programmes when no such evidence exists; further notes that letters from TV Licensing imply that enforcement officers have the authority to search an individual's home without their consent, when in fact this is not the case; and calls on the Government to take action to end this intimidation of those who have no need of a television licence.
