Rebalancing The North Economy

EDM number 2393 in 2010-12, proposed by Grahame Morris on 08/11/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Economic situation.

That this House congratulates the Sunday Sun on its campaign which calls on the Prime Minister to visit Easington constituency in County Durham, one of the most deprived areas hardest hit by a regional recession; is deeply concerned by the rise in unemployment in the North East region to 11 per cent. last month; is alarmed that the North East has lost over 32,000 public sector jobs; notes that over 8,000 public sector jobs have been created in London; further notes that there have been a further 24,000 jobs created in the South East in the public and private sectors; believes that Government policies are failing to even attempt to rebalance the economy; further notes that funding for regional development has been cut by two-thirds at the same time as local authorities in the North East have faced some of the largest budget cuts across the country; and asks the Government to adopt Labour'sfivepoint plan in order to secure jobs and growth for the North East as well as all other regions of the UK.
