Paddle Steamer Waverley

EDM number 2331 in 2010-12, proposed by Stephen Lloyd on 31/10/2011.
Categorised under the topics of Shipping and Tourism.

That this House notes the good work done by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society in safeguarding the only paddle steamer left in the world, Paddle Steamer Waverly; further notes the engineering and sea-going heritage that the paddle steamer represents and its being a symbol of an historic age; recognises its importance to the British tourist industry, as something which travels across much of the British coastline and raises the great British community spirit; further recognises the high costs of maintenance which, alongside increasing fuel costs, threaten the survival of this national asset; further notes that a motion insimilarterms has been tabled in the Scottish Parliament; and calls on the Government to take action securing support in Westminster, so that the only remaining paddle steamer, a treasured part of the UK's heritage, is not lost forever.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
