Supermarkets And Claims Under The Riot (Damages) Act
EDM number 2302 in 2010-12, proposed by Tony Lloyd on 25/10/2011.
Categorised under the topics of Crimes of violence, Police and Service industries.
That this House notes the different responses of different retailers following the recent public disorder in Manchester; applauds the decision of Sainsbury's to refuse to claim under the Act because it did not want to place an extra financial and administrative burden on the Police; and contrasts this with the position of Tesco which submitted more than 20 claims for compensation including one for 40, which has now been withdrawn.
This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
