Proposed Merger Of Scottish Universities
EDM number 2210 in 2010-12, proposed by Jim McGovern on 10/10/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Higher education.
That this House condemns proposals put forward by the Scottish Government in Holyrood to force Scottish universities to merge and in so doing undermining their academic and administrative independence; is concerned that this will have a damaging effect on Dundee and Abertay universities, undermining the distinct cultures and approaches in each, as well as harming a long history of innovation, independence and success in these universities, and creating a potential loss of 500 jobs at Abertay; and calls on the Scottish Government to abandon these proposals.
This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
