That this House notes that atypical haemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a very rare disease causing irreversible kidney failure in children and adults; congratulates the scientific community for its research into the causes and treatment of aHUS; further notes that complement inhibitors, such as eculizumab, are likely to be the new standard of care for aHUS; further notes that an application for a nationally commissioned service to treat aHUS has been submitted to the Advisory Group for National Specialised Services and is supported by the British Association for Paediatric Nephrology, the British Transplantation Society, NHS Kidney Care and the Renal Association; and calls on the Government to ensure that aHUS patients have access to specialist services and therapies.
