Assets Of Regional Development Agencies
EDM number 1960 in 2010-12, proposed by Stephen Twigg on 21/06/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Regional development agencies.
That this House notes that 22 June 2011 marks a year since the abolition of regional development agencies was announced in the Chancellor's Emergency Budget; is extremely concerned that one year on the future of many of the assets, which in total are worth hundreds of millions of pounds, held by these agencies is still undecided; urges theGovernment to take action to ensure these assets can be sensibly acquired by local authorities or local enterprise partnerships, perhaps along the lines of its agreement already made to transfer all the assets held by the London Development Agency to the Greater London Authority, to help them to drive growth in the regions and are not lost in a firesale; and calls on the Government to act urgently to remove the uncertainty currently felt across the English regions and to allow these assets to continue to be utilised in the regions to boost growth there.
