Nhs Locum Surgeons
EDM number 1821 in 2010-12, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 17/05/2011.
Categorised under the topics of Employment, Health services and Health staff and professions.
That this House supports the Royal College of Surgeons' guidance on NHS Locum Surgeons; notes that this guidance outlines the vital role that these surgeons play in the short term; further notes that it is important for employers in the health service to employ surgeons who are suitably qualified for the position they are filling; considers that employers must not use locum appointments as long-term solutions to staffing problems; further considers that employers must ensure that locum surgeons are able to fulfil their revalidation requirements; and believes that these factors are crucial in ensuring that patients can be assured of receiving the same quality of care whether they are being treated by a locum surgeon or a surgeon who is a permanent member of staff.
