Law Society And Closure Of Law Firms

EDM number 1683 in 2010-12, proposed by David Crausby on 31/03/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Legal profession.

That this House questions the fairness of the Law Society and the Solicitors Regulation Authority in the way in which they intervene to close law firms under supervision; recognises under the present system that when the Law Society stops a law firm trading, for whatever reason, the suppliers to that firm do not get paid money owed to them, causing financial instability and job losses; and calls on the Government to review how the Law Society currently conducts itself regarding the closure of law firms and to encourage them to act responsibly and fairly when dealing with the affairs of suppliers to such firms.
