That this House recognises the 28,880 people who have been killed on UK roads in the last 10 years for which records are available between 2000 and 2009; further recognises that many needless deaths and injuries were prevented by leadership through casualty reduction targets and a clear vision of reducing deaths and serious injuries on the roads to 2010; further recognises the opportunity that the UN Decade of Action on Road Safety, which commences on 11 May 2011, offers to this House an opportunityto lay forth a bold agenda for action to prevent further road deaths and injuries; calls for strong targets for road casualty reductions to be incorporated into the strategic framework for road safety to 2020, which is due to be published in April 2011, to further the reduction of deaths and serious injuries on the roads; further calls for a strong vision to be laid forth in the strategic framework for road safety that recognises that all road deaths are preventable; and congratulates Brake for their work to support people who have been bereaved or seriously injured in a road crash.
