Independent Inquiry Into The Last Government's Policy Towards Libya

EDM number 1544 in 2010-12, proposed by Robert Halfon on 07/03/2011.
Categorised under the topics of Higher education and Middle East.

That this House notes that several British universities have extensive financial links with Gaddafi's regime in Lybia, including the London School of Economics; regrets that the last Government had a deliberate policy of encouraging these links; welcomes the statements by the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary condemning the Lybian dictatorship for its terrible record of human rights abuse and state-sponsored terrorism, including the Lockerbie bombing; therefore calls on the present Government to hold an independent inquiry into how the last Government facilitated links between British universities and Libya, where all documents, emails, minutes of meetings and any official relevant information whatsoever can be published, so that the British people can finally know what the last Government did in their name.
