Security Operations Against Kurdish Community Leaders

EDM number 1361 in 2010-12, proposed by Hywel Williams on 27/01/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Ethnic groups.

That this House expresses its concern at the apparent increase in surveillance of the Kurdish community in the UK by the security services and recent visits by MI5 officers to the homes of leading Kurdish community activists, reportedly to warn them to give up their political activities; recognises the widespread consternation among Kurdish people and the disenchantment with the political system that this gives rise to; notes that Kurds are committed to working entirely within the law to achieve their aspirations through peaceful dialogue; and believes that the way to securing continued good community relations is for the Government to show even-handedness in its foreign policy and support an inclusive peace process in Turkey that involves the legitimate representatives of the Kurds.
