V&a At Dundee

EDM number 1275 in 2010-12, proposed by Stewart Hosie on 13/01/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Museums and galleries.

That this House welcomes the commitment of almost 5 million by the Scottish Government that will enable the Victoria and Albert Museum at Dundee project to get under way in 2011; notes that the financial commitment means the project partners, the universities of Dundee and Abertay Dundee, Dundee City Council, Scottish Enterprise and the VA, are now able to undertake substantive fundraising for the full costs of constructing the museum; believes the VA at Dundee will be great for the city as well as benefiting the whole of Scotland, acting as a magnet for visitors from all over the world; further notes that Scotland's strong and vibrant creative industries are a high growth sector which already employ more than 63,000 people and contribute more than 5.2 billion to the Scottish economy annually; and is certain that the VA at Dundee presents a great opportunity to grow Dundee's reputation as a centre for the creative industries sector.
