Protection Of Minorities In Iraq
EDM number 1172 in 2010-12, proposed by John McDonnell on 09/12/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Iraq and Religious discrimination.
That this House notes with alarm what many believe is an attempt to drive out ethnic and religious minorities from Iraq, which they have inhabited for millennia, includingChristians; considers that the Iraqi political establishment has failed to live up to its legal obligations to protect these minorities; and calls on the Government, as a major protagonist in the war on Iraq, to fulfil its legal and moral responsibilities to ensure that the UN Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief is adhered to, especially for those minorities driven out of areas controlled by the UK during the official occupation of Iraq.
