That this House congratulates medical scientists led by Professor Andrew Tobin at the University of Leicester on their discovery of a new mechanism for controlling blood sugar levels; notes that the research identifies a way in which our body controls the level of sugar in blood following a meal; further notes that this discovery has important implications for the 2.8 million diabetes sufferers in the UK; and calls on the Government to continue to fund ground-breaking research in Britain's universities and to work with diabetes charities and health professionals to raise awareness and prevent further increases in the number of sufferers.
