Royal Succession

EDM number 1049 in 2010-12, proposed by Lorely Burt on 17/11/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Crown.

That this House notes that under the current constitution any male child will supersede any female child in the royal succession regardless of which is the eldest; further notes the Act of Settlement 1701 under which someone in the line of succession is uniquely barred from marrying a Catholic; and considers that these two antiquated and discriminatory rules have no place in a modern monarchy; recalls the all-party agreement in the last Parliament to amend the law; and calls on the Government to legislate to end these out-dated, sexist and anti-Catholic aspects of the consitution.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
