Public Transport Fares In London (No. 2)
EDM number 938 in 2009-10, proposed by George Galloway on 25/02/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Buses and Railways.
That this House notes London's woeful position as fourth from bottom in EuroTest's newly published comparative report on local public transport systems in 23 European cities; further notes that London fares were found to be the most expensive in Europe, even before the inflation-busting January 2010 fares rise; believes that development of a fully integrated public transport system with fares that offer good value for money is essential to reduce traffic congestion and pollution throughout the capital; further believes that it is an unfair burden on the travelling public, many of whom can least afford to pay, to bear these disproportionately high costs; and therefore calls on the Government to provide proper financing for Transport for London to reduce fares to the level of the European average within the next two years.
