Baluch Nationalist Campaigners In Pakistan

EDM number 887 in 2009-10, proposed by Nigel Evans on 22/02/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Asia.

That this House notes with concern the continuing reports from the province of Baluchistan in Pakistan of people being abducted and disappearing since the onset of an armed crackdown by the state of Pakistan against non-violent Baluch nationalists; further notes the ongoing denial in Baluchistan by the Pakistani authorities of basic rights including freedom of assembly and freedom of speech; supports calls for an independent investigation into the actions of the Pakistan authorities in Baluchistan and for those responsible for the abductions to be brought to justice; and believes that involuntary disappearances and the denial of democratic rights of assembly and protest are the hallmark of dictatorships and systems dominated by non-democratic forces.
